Mounjaro risks

Dear Patient,

If you are a woman and are taking or considering treatment with Mounjaro (tirzepatide), please be aware of the following important safety information:

  • Mounjaro may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives (the pill). If you are using the pill for contraception, please use an additional method of contraception (such as condoms) while taking Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after any dose change.
  • Mounjaro is not recommended during pregnancy. It may pose a risk to an unborn baby. You should stop Mounjaro at least one month before trying to conceive to allow the medication to leave your system.
  • If you are taking oral progesterone as part of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), Mounjaro may also affect the absorption of oral hormone treatments.

Please contact the surgery if you have any concerns about your HRT or contraception.
