Proposed closure of branch surgery at Aberford (Jessamine Cottage Surgery)

Posted by: elizabethbroadbent - Posted on:

It is with regret that we are proposing to close our branch surgery at Aberford. We plan to transfer all our patient services currently offered at the branch surgery to our other sites at Garforth and Barwick in Elmet. Our dispensary service would transfer to Barwick in Elmet.

We are asking patients to complete a survey. This will be open between Monday 13th September and will close on Friday 15th October.  The link to the survey is below:

If you are unable to complete the survey online we have paper copies available from each surgery or you can request a copy by emailing [email protected] or by telephoning 0113 3854535 (if you leave a message we will return your call).

Once the survey window closes, we will collate the results of the survey and correspondence received to inform our impact assessment. Once this has been concluded, we will then be able to advise on the next steps in the process.

The main reasons for us proposing the closure are:

  • Providing a safe environment for our patients and staff is an absolute priority for us and this is not possible at the Aberford surgery.
  • The Aberford surgery premises are outdated. We struggle to maintain our infection control standards, as it is a Grade 2 listed building in need of modernisation.
  • The building is not compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA); there is a step down into the surgery and a narrow flight of stairs up to the doctor’s consulting room.
  • It is important to us (and it is a legal requirement) that all our patients are able to access a purpose-built modern surgery with lift access, where necessary. Both Barwick-in-Elmet and Garforth surgeries offer this.

We have written to all households in Aberford where there is a patient registered with the Practice. A copy of this letter is available on this website.

We are compiling a Frequently Asked Questions document that we will update on a regular basis. A copy of this document is available on this website.

If you would like to comment, please complete the survey before 15th October 2021.
